The Last Ember Mage

First Thoughts
I’ve been craving a high-stakes fantasy with deep worldbuilding, and The Last Ember Mage delivered in spades. From the first chapter, I was hooked by its rich magic system and morally gray characters. If you love The Name of the Wind meets The Poppy War, this might be your next obsession.

Plot Summary (Spoiler-Free!)
In a world where magic is dying, Kael Arris is the last surviving Ember Mage—a once-powerful order hunted to extinction. When an ancient enemy resurfaces, Kael must decide whether to hide forever or risk using his fading magic to save a kingdom that fears him.

The story balances political intrigue, brutal battles, and quiet moments of humanity. Thorn’s world feels lived-in, with myths, religions, and even a dying language adding layers to the lore.

What I Loved
🔥 Magic System: Ember magic is visceral—users draw power from burning their own memories, making every spell a sacrifice.
🔥 Characters: Kael is flawed but compelling, and the side cast (especially a rogue scholar named Veyra) steals every scene.
🔥 Pacing: Never a dull moment—even the “quiet” chapters crackle with tension.

Minor Critiques
⚡ Infodumps: A few early chapters explain too much at once.
⚡ Ending: Satisfying, but slightly rushed—I wanted 50 more pages!

Final Verdict
A must-read for fantasy fans. Thorn’s prose is gorgeous, the stakes are sky-high, and that one twist in Act 3 left me speechless. I’ll be impatiently waiting for the sequel!
